I have developed this website in an effort to promote the hobby of collecting Uncle Sam’s Banks and Cash Registers manufactured by the Durable Toy and Novelty Company. My hope is to provide knowledge about Uncle Sam’s Banks and create a place where fellow collectors can find each other, share information and enhance everyone’s collecting experience.

The Durable Toy & Novelty Company manufactured Uncle Sam’s Banks from the company’s beginnings in 1907 until it was sold to Western Stamping Company in 1957.  Western Stamping Company soon thereafter shipped production of the banks overseas and began making them out of tin instead of steel. It is the toy banks and registers made in America by the Durable Toy and Novelty Company prior to 1958 that this website is dedicated to and not those by Western Stamping Company. Also not a part of this site are the banks made by the Shepard Hardware Company of the iconic cast iron statue of Uncle Sam dropping a coin from his hand into a bag at his feet.

If you are a collector of Uncle Sam’s Banks and would like to share your collecting experiences, I would enjoy hearing from you. I am happy to share my knowledge with both the experienced collector or anyone who just has an interest in the banks.

I am currently working on a new book/DVD that will serve as both a collectors guide and historical reference for Uncle Sam’s Banks. It will contain historical information about the Durable Toy and Novelty Company, information on its principles, company documents and bank patents. Most importantly it will contain a complete pictorial of over 100 different banks and numerous company brochures and advertisements.
