Early banks and cash registers do not have dates on them. In the late teens and early 1920’s Durable Toy and Novelty Company began stamping the date into the steel on the bottom of the banks. They only used the last two digits of the year. For example a bank made in 1925 will be stamped 25.

Beginning in the 1930’s Durable Toy and Novelty Company began painting instructions on the back of banks. If the bank was not stamped on the bottom then the last two digits of the year were printed at the bottom of the instructions. Unfortunately this can sometimes be worn off.
